Important note about MDZS / TGCF posts

28 APRIL 2019 UPDATE: I have approached and sorted things out with two youtube users. The first one did not delete the videos, but chose to blur out the subs. Please inform me if this user ever repeats their actions.

I have worked things out with the second youtube user. Things are fine now. Please don’t bother them.

Sadly, this incident has shown that if a person really wants to take your hard work, they will do whatever it takes even if you password-lock all your posts and put a stern warning. There is no way for me to judge their intentions if they disguise it well. So fine, I will make everything public again.

However, I ask for your cooperation in telling me if you ever see anyone using my translations without my knowledge/credit. I will approach them to settle things.

To everyone who keeps asking why I don’t sub my translations on the videos: I don’t want to repost another fan’s hard work without their permission. I have tried asking original uploaders but to no avail. So I could only proceed this way. I have many footnotes which I think will enhance people’s understanding, but cannot fit in a video. Those are the top reasons. I allowed people to use my translations as long as they tell me first and credit/link back (including re-translating into another language).

So like I always state at the end of my posts: If you want to use my translations for anything, ask me first. Please don’t copy/paste/edit my translations elsewhere without my knowledge. If you take advantage of my hard work, don’t expect me to 给你面子.

Lastly, if you enjoy my blog content, you may consider buying me a ko-fi (https://ko-fi.com/A7671WQX). If not, a simple “thank you” and/or comments are always appreciated. This applies to any translator – please take the initiative to show them your appreciation.

    Hi~
    Happy Christmas! ❤️❤️❤️
I hope you have a great time! 🤗💖💖💖
I leave you the new links ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    «Guiding my beloved»

«A small lightweight boat does not cross»

    «Pleased God»

    «Common people are unworth»

    Another matter.
Taking advantage my holidays, I corrected some past translations for misspellings and/or synchronization fails.
    I hope you don’t mind ☹️
It are next (and your links):

«Meeting you in this world, rain meeting a flower»

    «Bestowed with a blade» (only song)

    «Should not have known»

    «Half for your sake»

    «Individual Destinies»

    «For you to know»

    And (in a very incredible event), can I translate the missing translations? «How to pursue warmth», «Green Ghost’s Accusations» and «seductor / womaniser».
Also, I’ve been thinking of translating «Like a butterfly cherishing a flower», but only the song, without dialogues, and only if you agree, since you already authorized a Spanish translation ❤️

Again, thank you very much and happy holidays! I really hope you have a great and happy time, my best wishes to you! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

And yes, it is okay to translate «How to pursue warmth», «Green Ghost’s Accusations» and «seductor / womaniser». By the way, «How to pursue warmth» is a hard song. ^^; As for «Like a butterfly cherishing a flower», it is okay to translate the song. I’m alright with it. As always, credit that it’s my English translations, and link back to my blog. Do let me know when you’re done~

Super late to this but I’m so sorry to hear that people are taking your hard work and not crediting you for all of your time, work and effort. As they are youtubers, I worry that they have been taking advantage of your work to monetize their videos with your translations. If this turns out to be the case, perhaps you could message them with the fact that they are making money off of your work. Hopefully they aren’t though. I’m also not too sure about copyright issues and how this could play out for you and them. I often worry that I should even post translations of otome games on my blog for reasons similar to this as well as with copyright issues. Translators like you deserve credit for their hard work and it hurts to see people take advantage of you like this. Those people especially should understand how shitty that is.

Hi Leaf, thanks for the comment! Actually I already approached the 2 YTers and updated my post. As you mentioned, I also worried about one of them monetising their videos (since they refused to delete and only blurred the subs even though they promised to delete at first…).

I have left my post pinned since I want people to be aware of such situations, and to not be so passive in just consuming everything.

Also, unfortunately I feel that translators get little credit/thanks for their work so this post is also a reminder to people to take the time to express gratitude to all translators. As much as translators usually start a project out of their love and passion for a topic, there is no reason why people cannot take the time to just say a simple “thank you”.

I’m glad you were able to approach them and were able to pin your post for every one to see. That sounds like one of the most heart wrenching situations to be in so I’m so sorry you’re dealing with such awful people.

And absolutely agreed with your last bit there. I too often see so many people lash out at localization teams but those people have little to no idea of what localization, translation, etc. even entail. Staying as pure to the original Japanese as possible isn’t practical and leads to really an awful experience in the other language. Some things simply cannot be translated literally and so must be used in a context that can be understood by the other audience. I’m starting to think I’ll take my translations and wrap them into a huge summary rather than post actual translations. I’m a little worried about wether posting translations of games are even legal – there’s a huge gray area regarding transformative works on that and frankly, I’d rather not get into a mess. So I’m going to take the safer road and write up summaries instead.

If there’s anything I or anyone else can do to help you in your situation, please let us know. I wouldn’t do anything on my own without your a-okay on this matter but please know that you have my support if you ever need it 🙂

It was truly a tiring situation, but I didn’t want to seem as if I didn’t care about these things happening so I took a more active approach.

Indeed, translation does take a lot of work! Sometimes people don’t realise how much time and effort it involves. For example, a translated chapter of a novel which they can consume in a few minutes, may take us hours or even days (depending on the language difficulty). And yeah, I understand your decision to go with summaries instead.

Thank you so much for your kind words and support! It really warms my heart ❤

Hello, to clarify about these two youtube accounts:

One of them uses my English translations are a base to translate into Spanish. For whatever reason, they did not credit me in their recent video uploads. I contacted them and also was referred to their twitter accounts. I got a response from them on twitter. They kept trying to change the topic and telling me to wait for them to delete the videos. Anyway, I am still waiting for them to delete the videos.

The other one translates into English but the translations for certain fansongs are rather similar to mine. It’s understandable if the lyrics are very simple. That’s fine. But for the difficult group fansongs, usually people are unlikely to have very similar interpretations of such complex lyrics. For example, their translation of the difficult song 百无禁忌 were more different from mine. But their translation of the difficult songs 一念丛生 and 天命独绝 are rather similar to mine. Anyway, I also just contacted them and am waiting for their reply.

Thank you for all your hard work! I have your character list bookmarked a bit after I started reading TGCF, and it’s been helping me a lot because there’s so many characters and everyone has multiple titles/names and I can’t keep track of them all aaaaaaa

I just found out when I went to look at your posts that you translated many of the fansongs I’ve been looping for the past couple of months and I’ve always wanted to know what they’re saying! If it’s not too much trouble, could I get the passwords for the songs below? I would ask for all the TGCF and MDZS passwords, but that might be too many, although the list below is also quite long oops

    《何以趋暖》天官赐福
    《千灯愿》天官赐福
    《世中逢尔雨逢花》天官赐福
    《悅神》天官赐福
    《赐刀》天官赐福
    《一念众生》天官赐福
    《逆命》天官赐福
    《天命独绝》天官赐福

    《步人间》魔道祖師
    《夷陵》魔道祖師

Thank you again! I’m sorry you had to do this because people were disrespectful :((

I didn’t realize that you were the one who went through the amazing effort of translating the fansongs! Your hard work was really much appreciated, especially since the songs were so beautiful and the story so heart wrenching. Your notes were also really helpful when I first started in this fandom ^-^. I am sorry that the whole thing became an ordeal. Are you ok though?

If you choose, could you please send the passwords for 苍生不配 and the other song I was thinking of I’m not sure what the name is, but this was the video on bilibili https://www.bilibili.com/video/av25630604/?spm_id_from=333.788.videocard.2

Hello, thank you for your comment and nice words!

Sorry to be paranoid but in that case you are implying that you have read my translations AND notes on another website aside from my blog? I get it if you’ve seen my translations subbed on a video (whether website or mobile app) – but then you mentioned that you have read my notes?? Cos most of them wouldn’t have bothered copying my footnotes. So it’s even more worrying if you’re saying that you have read the entire of my posts elsewhere. (Since you didn’t realise that I was the original translator.)

Sorry I just wanna check first!

That… Really does that suck, I hope everything can only get better from here. Thank you again for all the hard work you do! And I was wondering if you would know about a certain TGCF song? I’ve been trying to find it, but i’ve been stumped, so I really hope you don’t mind me asking! (you seem like the right person to go to at least ;-; )
It’s sung from Hua Cheng’s POV with a male cover, and sings about how it kinda all stated to even the very end. From what I remembered of what I saw translated at the time, some of the lyrics go (from my shody memory, so sorry if i’m wrong)
“Who bought a lonely ghost and made me never rest in peace.
    Palaces fall and shrines are demolished;
a thousand swords pierce you, these common people undeserving.
Three thousand lanterns, ‘people asking for wealth, fame, honor. I ask for none of that, all I want is you.
    You are all I see.
For you I will be invincible.”
Sorry about this all being jumbled; if you know about this song, even have it, I would very much like to know! Thank you again for your time and effort, I hope everything goes well for you.
