English Translation

This is a translation of 心声, from 犯罪心理 (Criminal Psychology). It’s the theme song of the audio drama’s second season.

The theme song is in the perspective of the character Song Shengsheng. Majority of the second season focuses on case 4 四声. No obvious spoilers from the song alone. However, if you already know the spoilers, every line is a knife. So prepare your tissues. (Trust me, the chorus hurts the most.)

This world is too quiet, too close
A butterfly lands on a rose’s thorns
Unable to make a sound, it is unable to make a sound
It is me

Those times when there was trouble falling asleep
Telling a fairytale, by the name of Wilde
Also telling unspeakable tales of mine
And what bystanders consider to be happy tales

Dear girl, don’t cry anymore, don’t cry anymore for me
If there comes a day, when you can encounter the wind
Raise your head and you will see me in the sunlight, once you raise your hand
You can touch, can touch

I will sing a song, don’t cry anymore, forget me after you listen to it
If there comes a day, when you can encounter the wind
Raise your head and you will see me in the sunlight, that me
Is living well

If there is someone who wants to be brave
Then take a step forward, and embrace
Thankfully compared to me all of you can be
More fortunate

The darkness of the world, I have seen it
Fresh flowers and crowds of people, I have been through it
There are some matters, which I soon can no longer see
Could you speak about them for me to listen——

That honest person, is he forced to lie again?
That upright person, did he bend over in the end?
My dear girl, are you crying for me again?
Yet I do not know, do not know

Please continue walking, there is also light in the furthest corner of the world [2]
Please continue walking, let me hear (your) voice
Please continue walking, stay firm in journeying to the next scenery
Please continue loving

[1] Song Shengsheng is singing about his inner thoughts because (spoiler reasons). When translated literally, 心 = heart and 声 = voice/sound.

[2] Actually, he is specifically asking you to continue walking and to continue loving. However, I can’t phrase “You please continue walking” nicely in English without sounding awkward.

Notes: Mandarin is not my most proficient language, so feel free to feedback. Also, I interpreted some lines to my own understanding, and balanced between literal and lyrical translations.
